Organizations and members
Personal workspaces and organizations, roles, invitations and member management.
Each workspace, personal or organization, has its own repositories, runs, findings and credits.
Personal workspace and organizations
- Your personal workspace comes with your V12 account and is named after your username. Only you are in it: it has no Members page and no invitations.
- An organization is shared with other people. You can belong to several.
Every page's address starts with its workspace's, as in https://v12.sh/, so a link opens the same workspace for anyone who belongs to it. A link without one, such as https://v12.sh/findings, opens the workspace you used last.
To switch, open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar, which names your current workspace above your name, and pick one under Organizations. Personal marks your own.
Organization address
A new workspace's address comes from the organization's name, or from your username for your personal workspace, plus a number if another workspace has it. Renaming the organization or changing your username later keeps the address.
An Admin can change the address once, under Settings → General → Address. V12 shows the old and new address and asks you to confirm; Change address turns on after a few seconds.
An address has 2 to 39 lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens, with at least one letter. Some words are reserved, and an address another workspace has had stays taken.
After the change, members following old links are sent to the new address. Anyone outside the organization sees a page-not-found on its pages, except guests opening a repository shared with them.
Create an organization
V12 creates an organization from a GitHub organization. You must be an admin of the GitHub organization, or have had your request to install V12 there approved.
Open the account menu and click New organization….
If Connect your GitHub account appears, click Connect GitHub account.
Under Where are your repositories?, pick the GitHub organization. If V12 isn't installed there, click Install V12 on another GitHub organization and install it on GitHub.
Under Which repositories first?, pick repositories and click Add N repositories and continue. V12 creates the organization and makes you its Admin.
Under Who works in organization, invite people by email, or click Skip for now.
- If the GitHub organization already has a V12 workspace you belong to, you can open it or continue its setup. Otherwise, V12 shows "Already connected to another workspace."
- If you pick your personal GitHub account, V12 adds its repositories to your personal workspace.
Roles
An organization has two roles. You are an Admin of the organizations you create, and you control your personal workspace.
| Role | Can |
|---|---|
| Member | Start and cancel runs, triage findings, create and edit Steers, add public repositories, and see billing, members, integrations and Autopilot. |
| Admin | Everything a Member can, plus: add private repositories V12's GitHub App has access to; create and update repositories V12 hosts; remove GitHub repositories; change billing, members, settings, integrations and Autopilot rules; share a repository inbox. |
Where a message says "owner", as in "Ask an owner of … for a new one.", it means an Admin.
Invite members
Admins invite people from Settings → Members.
Click Invite.
In the Invite to dialog, enter one Email address and choose a role: Member, the default, or Admin.
Click Send invite. V12 emails the invitation.
The invitee must accept while signed in with the invited email address; if signed out, they are asked to sign in or create an account first. The link's page names the organization and the role. Accept invite joins and opens the organization; a signed-in invitee can also Decline.
- An expired link says "This invitation expired".
- A link someone already used says "This invitation was already used".
- You can't invite yourself or an existing member.
Pending invites, seen only by Admins, lists unaccepted invitations with their role and expiry. Revoke cancels one. There is no resend: invite the address again, and the new invitation replaces the pending one.
Change a role or remove a member
As an Admin, open Settings → Members and click a member's role. Pick Admin, Member or Remove from organization. Removal takes effect at once and signs the person out of V12.
- You can't change your own role. Pointing at it shows "You cannot change your own role".
- Every organization keeps at least one Admin: V12 refuses to demote or remove the last one.
- Members see everyone's role but can't change it; the page says "Only admins invite members and change roles."
Rename
Admins rename an organization in the Organization name field of Settings → General. Members can only see it. A new organization starts with its GitHub organization's name written as words: tempo-labs becomes "Tempo Labs".
